The attack is the latest in London's string of assaults on Britain's Jewish community

Two teenagers have been arrested after a "firebomb" attack targeted a synagogue in Harrow, north west London over the weekend.

A man had been seen lighting a bag in the doorway of the place of worship, which officials later discovered to have contained three bottles with fluid in them, at around midnight on Sunday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman detailed the attack at Kenton United Synagogue, where smoke filled a room after a "bottle with some sort of accelerant had been thrown through the window".

The Community Security Trust (CST) confirmed an internal room sustained minor smoke damage but no structural damage.

They added no one had been injured in what they are currently treating as an arson attack.

On Sunday, the synagogue’s rabbi Yehuda Black said the item in question was hurled into the medical room.

Meanwhile, Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis branded the attack as an act of cowardice.

He further condemned "a sustained campaign of violence and intimidation against the Jewish community of the UK is gathering momentum".

His statement added: "This sustained attack on our community’s ability to worship and live in safety is an attack on the values that bind us all together."

On Monday morning, Matt Jukes, deputy commissioner of the force, confirmed a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the attack.

He said: "I’m really pleased to say that overnight, we have news of two arrests in relation to that incident."

He added: "We’ve made over the last weeks 15 arrests in relation to a series of six incidents that have targeted Jewish premises, the Jewish-led ambulance service and a Persian media organisation."

Iranian-backed proxies are now the subject of police investigations into the latest attacks on Britain's Jewish community.

Mr Jukes added: "I think that's a very serious line of inquiry in relation to these events, we've seen a pattern… people taking cash as it looks like quick and easy money.

"Teams I led have put in prison individuals like Dylan Earl, who is serving a 17-year prison sentence for acting on behalf of the Wagner group, in that case, Russian connected.

"But this is part of the modern hybrid war fought by proxies."

Following the incident in north west London, deputy assistant commissioner Vicki Evans confirmed that Counter Terrorism Policing are leading all of the investigations into the string of incidents in recent weeks.

Ms Evans shared the attacks on Israeli and Jewish properties were "similar in nature" across the capital.

Most have been claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right, she added.

Footage published by the group depicts an individual clothed in dark material lighting an item and throwing it at the synagogue before bolting.
