Grooming gangs inquiry will finally be ordered in Scotland after years of police failings

The survivor who shared her story with GB News then wrote to First Minister John Swinney to demand an inquiry.

The revelations from Taylor’s case led to the SNP government in December launching a review of grooming gangs in Scotland, with Professor Alexis Jay advising the process.

The move came under criticism for its investigative scope and convoluted processes. It was described as a “mess” by Labour MP Joani Reid, who said that the review looked “less like a vehicle for justice and more like a containment strategy.”

The review was designed to advise ministers on whether there should be a full inquiry on the abuse networks.

Scottish education minister Jenny Gilruth is now set to make an announcement this afternoon on the new inquiry.

GB News can reveal that Ms Gilruth has been meeting with the mother of a grooming gang survivor to discuss the government’s approach to the crisis.

The mum told The People’s Channel: “She’s taken information on board. Survivors’ voices needed to be included in the process and I was asked if we needed an inquiry.

“She’s gone away and taken that on board.”

The mum said that she “had concerns about this review from the get-go.”

“When you read into it, they weren’t actually doing anything. When it was announced, it became apparent that different organisatiosn that have failed already were now reviewing their own failures.

“These bodies were marking their own homework.”

She added: “I really like the fact that Jenny Gilruth has taken things on. She has listened and is obviously implementing things.

“I was sceptical but I have been pleasantly surprised by Jenny. She’s been the best person I’ve spoken to on this so far.”
