Liz Truss' Conservative Party Conference speech has been interrupted by Greenpeace in Birmingham.
Two female protesters holding a flag which read “who voted for this?” were ejected from the hall after disrupting Prime Minister Liz Truss’s first Tory conference speech as party leader.
The protesters shouted towards the stage as they were escorted out and booed by Conservative Party members.
Liz Truss said “let’s get them removed” as the protesters disrupted her conference speech.
Greenpeace said in a post on Twitter: “Greenpeace activists have interrupted @TrussLiz speech at #CPC22 to denounce the prime minister ‘shredding’ her party’s 2019 manifesto promises.
“The PM is U-turning on fracking, strong climate action, and world-leading environmental protections.
“Who voted for this?”
Prime Minister Liz Truss walked out on stage for her keynote speech at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham to the ’90s classic Moving On Up by M People.
The Tory faithful in the audience gave her a resounding standing ovation, with plenty of cheers.
The Prime Minister vowed to get Britain “through the tempest” in her first Conservative Party conference speech as leader.
The Prime Minister told the packed hall in Birmingham: “We gather at a vital time for the United Kingdom.
“These are stormy days.
“Together, we have mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the rock on which modern Britain was built.
“We’re now in a new era under King Charles III.
“We’re dealing with the global economic crisis caused by Covid and by Putin’s appalling war in Ukraine.
“In these tough times, we need to step up.
“I’m determined to get Britain moving, to get us through the tempest and put us on a stronger footing as a nation.”
