Speaking to reporters outside the Home Office, Shapps acknowledged a “turbulent time”

Nigel Farage has called Grant Shapps' appointment to Home Secretary a "Remainer coup".

The former transport secretary spent the Conservative Party conference earlier this month warning that Tory MPs would not “sit on their hands” in ousting Ms Truss without improvement.

Speaking to reporters outside the Home Office, Shapps acknowledged a “turbulent time” but said he is looking forward to getting on with the job “regardless of what’s happening otherwise in Westminster”.

Opening his show, Nigel said: “Don’t say I didn’t warn you over the course of the last couple of evenings.

“I told you something very extraordinary was going on, I suggested that it was a globalist coup and this does not mean that I’ve become a wild conspiracy theorist.

“Don’t ask the question ‘how long can the Prime Minister last?’ She is completely and utterly irrelevant.

“Jeremy Hunt is now almost like a president, making all the big decisions.

“The Hunt reshuffle has begun, the first victim is… no surprise here, the Home Secretary Suella Braverman.”

He later continued: “So she’s gone!… Somebody actually who had real backbone and wanted to fight these issues that a big silent majority agree with.

“Her replacement? Well of course it’s a globalist, of course, it’s a remainer - yes it’s Grant Shapps.”

Nigel then reacted to Grant Shapps initial statement made shortly after he was named the replacement Home Secretary in which he said: “I accept that the Government has obviously had a very difficult period. That nonetheless means it is doubly important to ensure that we are doing absolutely everything in the basic areas. Jeremy Hunt has done a great job settling issues in relation to that mini-budget”

Nigel responded: “‘As Jeremy Hunt said’, ‘Jeremy Hunt’s doing a great job’, Liz Truss not even mentioned. You get the point, Hunt is in control.”
