The force said their decision 'may be reconsidered if further evidence or information comes to light'

The Metropolitan Police have dropped a probe into comedian Graham Linehan over three gender-critical tweets he posted on social media.

In an email to the comedian's lawyers, a detective from the force wrote: "I am writing to inform you that following a review of the evidence by the Crown Prosecution Service, it has been determined that no further action will be taken in this matter.

"This decision means that no charges will be brought against Graham Linehan in relation to this allegation. Please note that this decision may be reconsidered if further evidence or information comes to light."

Last week, Westminster Magistrates' Court ordered that all of Mr Linehan's bail conditions be dropped after an application by Free Speech Union (FSU) lawyers.

District Judge Snow ruled the conditions were too vague and ordered that they be lifted immediately.

Mr Linehan and the FSU said they will sue the Met Police for wrongful arrest and interference with his free speech rights.

General Secretary of the FSU, Lord Young of Acton, said: "I'm glad the police have dropped the case, but it should have been obvious there was no case to answer in the first place.

"Graham should never have been interviewed about his tweets, let alone arrested by five armed police officers and held in a cell for over 12 hours.

"We've instructed a top-flight team of lawyers to sue the Met for wrongful arrest, among other things.

"Graham deserves an apology and the police must be made to pay a price so they stop behaving like the Stasi."

Reacting to the news, Mr Linehan stated: "The police have informed my lawyers that I face no further action in respect of the arrest at Heathrow in September.

"After a successful hearing to get my bail conditions lifted, the Crown Prosecution Service has dropped the case.

"With the aid of the Free Speech Union, I still aim to hold the police accountable for what is only the latest attempt to silence and suppress gender critical voices on behalf of dangerous and disturbed men."

The Father Ted co-creator previously said that his life was "made hell" by trans activists after he began sharing his gender critical views.

Mr Linehan told a court last month: "I lost my marriage. When I refused to stop talking about it, that's when they went after my wife.

"They scared her to such an extent, and the police visit scared her to such an extent. I was losing all my income, finally the pressure drove us apart. My friends disappeared.

"My Wikipedia page has been defaced, and this (trial) is the latest attempt to punish me."

Mr Linehan was previously arrested by five armed officers after arriving on a flight from the US at Heathrow on suspicion of inciting violence in relation to his posts on X.

One of the posts read: "If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops, and if all else fails, punch him in the balls."

When questioned about the arrest, Sir Keir Starmer's official spokesman said: "That's an operational matter for the police.

"But the Prime Minister and Home Secretary have been clear about where their priorities for crime and policing are, and that's tackling anti-social behaviour, shoplifting, street crime, as well as reducing serious violent crimes like knife crime and violence against women."
