Charlie saw off stern competition to scoop the top prize

GB News National Reporter Charlie Peters has seen off some of the biggest names in British television to win Best News Presenter at the 56th Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) Awards.

In a proud moment for the People’s Channel, Charlie’s work uncovering horrors of the grooming gang scandal and giving the victims a platform to be heard was deservedly rewarded.

Charlie's critical investigation into the scandal included the groundbreaking documentary Grooming Gangs: Britain’s Shame.

His work has even led to the Government opting to launch a national inquiry into the scandal after a period of sustained pressure.

The People's Channel's National Reporter beat Tric Awards host Dan Walker, BBC veteran Fiona Bruce and Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid to the gong.

In accepting the award, Charlie dedicated it to survivors and those with the courage to speak out.

He thanked viewers for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to uncovering the truth.

Accepting his award, Charlie dedicated the win “to the victims,” adding emotionally: “The fight for justice must go on - and it will.”

After winning the award, Charlie told GB News: "It feels sensational, obviously.

"The great joy of this is that I cover a really horrible story, for the most part; the abuse gang scandal, the grooming and exploitation and to be rewarded for the difference this channel has made on that issue means so much.

"This inquiry being launched… I’m very confident in saying now that it wouldn’t have happened without this channel. GB News has fearlessly engaged with the issue and given it the prominence it truly deserved.

"I’m very lucky to be standing next to these two. I’ve always taken my stories to them, and they’ve snapped them up every time on breakfast — it’s a big win.

"It’s also a huge win for GB News viewers. As Ellie and Stephen were saying, they’ve engaged with our coverage so much, because there’s been a real gap — and we’ve filled it. We’ve pushed this forward and made the most of what we can do.

"It’s my first, and hopefully, there’ll be a few more to come down the line."

The People's Channel also won for a third consecutive year when GB News Breakfast was named Best News Programme.

The show triumphed over BBC News at Six, ITV’s Good Morning Britain, and ITV Evening News at a glittering ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House.

Commenting on the channel’s double victory, GB News Head of Programming Ben Briscoe, said: “GB News Breakfast is the fastest growing breakfast show in the UK. Now it’s defined itself as Britain’s favourite morning news programme.

“It’s fiery, fearless and always entertaining. Eamonn, Ellie, Anne and Stephen provide a disruptive and entertaining alternative in the morning. I am so proud of the team that works tirelessly everyday.

“Charlie’s award is a powerful tribute to his relentless reporting on issues others have too often ignored. His journalism has brought truth, accountability, and above all, hope.

“Huge credit must go to the entire GB News team, both on and off screen, for their commitment to fearless journalism that’s now reshaping British broadcasting. People said we wouldn’t last. Four years on from launching we’re winning the biggest Awards.”

The Tric Awards honour excellence across the broadcasting industry, with winners chosen by public vote. The ceremony welcomed nearly 1,000 guests and featured a live performance from British soul star Lemar.

Charlie's work at the People's Channel has made him a firm fan-favourite, but it is not limited to exposing the scandal's grisly realities.

He also co-hosts Saturday Morning Live every weekend alongside Miriam Cates, bringing insightful commentary and engaging discussions to viewers across the nation.
