A burglar has been jailed for two years and seven months after being caught red-handed raiding a house.
Kenneth Wylie tried to escape over a woman's garden fence in Gateshead with a bag of stolen goods when she tried to stop him running away with her possessions, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
Wylie had to drop his rucksack to escape, but was later identified through a fingerprint left on a washing-up bottle.

He admitted to dwelling burglary for the sixth time on his criminal record.
The woman was awoken by the sound of a door opening shortly before 3am on May 1, prosecutor Saba Shan said.
The court heard that the woman went downstairs to investigate and found her kitchen light on and items scattered across her floor.
Mr Shan said that the woman saw a man carrying a rucksack in her back garden as she chased him.

As Wylie was trying to escape over a fence, the woman picked up a child's bike and swung it at him.
She then managed to wrench the bag away from him, with the burglar shouting "you can have it" before escaping.
Police matched a fingerprint from a bottle of washing-up liquid that the defendant had moved, the court heard.
The woman said in a statement to the court that she no longer felt safe in her own home.
Wylie was arrested several days later at Charing Cross railway station in London.
He was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to two years and seven months in prison.
During 2025, England and Wales' police forces received over 220,000 crime reports relating to burglary.
This compares to 243,196 across the entirety of 2024.
