France has claimed the UK owes more than £8million it promised to help fund beach patrols.
A record 1,295 migrants arrived in the UK on Monday after crossing the Channel on small boats, according to Government figures.
It is the highest daily total since current records began in 2018.
The local authority in France that covers Calais said it intercepted a total of 390 migrants attempting to cross the Channel on the same day.

Home Secretary Priti Patel has agreed deals worth more than £80million in France to tackle the crisis over the last three years.
But the Hauts-de-France regional office claims that the UK owes almost £8.4million for patrols.
The office told The Times: “The difficulties are compounded by the fact that the British are not reimbursing the expenditure undertaken to contribute to the protection of the border as well as the security of the migrants.
“Several million euros are owed to France by GB as of today (including almost €10 million (£8.4million) to pay for the reserve gendarmes and the airborne surveillance). Despite this, more than 60 percent of the attempted crossings have been stopped since the start of 2022.”
They added that the “combination of ground, air and maritime means to detect and prevent crossings has reached its limit in some sectors under heavy pressure”.
The Hauts-de-France office went on to say that they are being met with increased violence towards officers.
They said migrants are arriving on French beaches in “a flash-mob manner, sometimes more than 200 of them, banking on saturating law and order forces, who are in smaller numbers and only able to handle one departure at a time.
“We are also noticing an increasing level of violence with more and more frequent violence against police officers.”
