'If we continue to extend tolerance to people who are using it to subvert our way of life, there will soon be nothing left to defend,' the journalist warned

Jake Wallis Simons has warned that “Britain doesn’t know how to protect its citizens” in the wake of the Golders Green terror attack.

Speaking to GB News, the columnist expressed fear that the “true victims” of growing extremism would be “Britain and the West”.

His intervention follows Wednesday's stabbing of two Jewish men in the north west London suburb, which has prompted authorities to raise the UK terrorism threat level to “severe”.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said that the capital now faces an "epidemic" of antisemitism.

However, Mr Wallis was keen to point out that the threat extended to the whole of society.

He said: “I think I speak for quite a lot of Jews in saying that we're rather sick of being classed as the victims in all of this. Not to say that we're not the victims, but that we're only the first victims.

“The actual true victims are Britain and the West.

“That's evidenced by the fact that at Palestine marches through central London, Winston Churchill statue often ends up defaced.

“The cenotaph often ends up being menaced, the police often end up being attacked, ordinary people are intimidated, and the general feeling is anti-Britain.”

Mr Wallis was confident British Jews would be able to weather the threat but expressed fear for the UK as a whole.

“Jews tend to know who they are, have a strong sense of family, a strong sense of purpose, and a very, very strong resilience after 2000 years or more of antisemitism.

“Jews will be okay. We've had worse than this within living memory in the Holocaust.

“We've got Israel. Israel knows how to protect its citizens.

“This country, I'm afraid, does not,” he warned.

“Not only has this country forgotten how to protect all of its citizens, but it's forgotten how to perceive enemies, name them and combat them.

“It's too busy with this overall culture of what I call ‘niceism’ to actually get real and protect itself,” Mr Wallis declared.

“We are an international joke,” the columnist slammed.

“Our security is at risk.

“If we don't get real, if we continue to extend tolerance to people who are using it to subvert our way of life, there will soon be nothing left to defend.”
