Donald Trump has sparked confusion after endorsing “Eric” in the Republican primary for US senate in Missouri, despite there being three candidates under that name in the running.
Speaking about the candidates, the former US President said: “There is a BIG election in the Great State of Missouri.”
“I trust the Great People of Missouri, on this one, to make up their own minds.
“I am therefore proud to announce that ERIC has my complete and total endorsement!”

Two of the Erics, Eric Schmitt and Eric Greitens have both claimed Mr Trump’s backing.
Mr Greitens said: “I’m honoured to receive President Trump’s endorsement.”
And Mr Schmitt, whose campaign was previously described by Mr Trump as a “great dishonesty in politics” also said thank the former President for his backing.
Mr Schmitt said: “I’m grateful for President Trump’s endorsement. As the only America First candidate who has actually fought for election integrity, border security and against the Left’s indoctrination of our kids – I’ll take that fight to the Senate to SAVE AMERICA!”
While former Democratic senator Claire McCaskill also pointed out there was a third candidate named Eric.
Ms McCaskill wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations Eric McElroy on Donald Trump’s endorsement! Time for a press conference. This is quite an achievement.”
Mr Trump, who has become a kingmaker in the Republican Party during primaries for the November midterm elections, has endorsed some 200 candidates in 2022, with mixed results in states including Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina
