Conservative MP Miriam Cates has told GB News that she believes ongoing disruption to education "is a political choice."

Speaking to Gloria De Piero, the backbench Tory said "I think where we are now is that disruption to education is a political choice. It's not a medical inevitability, children are not risk from COVID."

She went on to add that "teachers have been jabbed, we know that schools are not hotbeds of transmission...all the evidence shows that there is actually no medical or scientific reason why there should be any disruption in schools."

Miriam Cates expressed a view that people should not be judgemental about other people's health decisions, telling viewers "it's perfectly reasonable for a parent to choose to have their child vaccinated. It's perfectly reasonable for them to choose not to have their child vaccinated."

A string of Conservative MPs have raised questions around the Government’s rollout of Covid-19 vaccines for children in England aged between 12 and 15.

In a Westminster Hall debate, fellow Conservative Chris Green (Bolton West) said: “It seems as though the system because it’s not been given clarity over what success is, the system carries on and on and on.”
