Four people are critically injured and a over a dozen more hurt after two trains collided in a head-on crash in Denmark.

The incident occurred north of Copenhagen, on a train line linking the towns of Hillerød and Kagerup, roughly 25 miles away from the capital.


The collision happened early this morning, just before 6:30am local time.

Greater Copenhagen Fire Department said: "It is two local trains that have collided head-on.

They further confirmed that everyone has been evacuated, confirming "no one is trapped".

"There are injuries among the passengers. Everyone is out of the trains, so no one is trapped...

"Large resources have been dispatched to the scene," the Danish capital's fire department confirmed.

Four people are considered to be critically injured and a further 17 have been taken hurt, according to Danish news agency Ritzau.

The police have described it as a "major incident" prompting a significant response from the emergency services.

North Zealand Police said: "We can confirm that there are injuries, but we cannot comment on the nature and extend of the injuries.

"Technical investigations are underway at the site, which we expect to continue over a longer period of time."

Seven ambulances and a helicopter were deployed once the alarm was raised, as well as the armed forces in a multi-agency response.

A video of the incident shows emergency services tending to the scene, with a helicopter landing near the site.

Some casualties were flown to hospital, Trine Egetved, the Mayor of Gribskov, the municipality in Denmark where the crash has occurred.

She wrote: "At the moment, it says that there are many injured, some of which are critical, and they have been flown to the National Hospital.

"I am deeply shaken and shocked and my thoughts are with all those involved.

"The local track is used by many Gribskov citizens, employees and pupils.

"Emergency services are working at full pressure, and we are trying from the central team to get an overview of what has happened more accurately and make sure that everyone gets the help they need."

It follows a similar incident in Denmark last summer.

In August 2025, one person died and a further 27 were injured after a train crashed into a slurry tanker, consequently derailing in southern Denmark, close to the German border.

The crash occurred between Tinglev and Kliplev in the country's south.

Police have launched an investigation into today's crash, which is ongoing.
