More families have taken to the uncouth tendency with surging supermarket costs battering Britons

A fiery clash erupted on GB News after a guest was branded "tacky" for a newly-adopted Christmas tendency to combat the cost of living crisis.

Etiquette expert Liz Brewer and travel blogger Carla Bellucci joined GB News and subsequently had a heated exchange over whether hosts should charge for Christmas dinner due to surging supermarket prices.

Weighing in on the debate, she said: "There's a difference between asking family to contribute and deciding that you're going to charge, whether it's fans, family or friends, whoever.

"But in this particular case, I mean, I thought it was incredibly tacky!"

"Excuse me?!" Ms Berlucci interjected, clearly aghast at the vicious criticism.

Nevertheless, the etiquette expert ploughed on, saying: "But it's a question of where you come from, how you've been brought up and giving, putting a value on getting together with family and friends and giving warmth, giving gratitude and being generous.

"And if you can't afford it and reading the article, I'm presuming this particular mother must have hit hard times, although she obviously made some money originally, but to be to actually drop to the depths of the tackiness of asking your own family to it."

But the vlogger interrupted, scoffing: "No, I haven't hit hard times. I can afford it, thank you very much!"

The pair quickly began talking over each other, with each guest outraged at their disgruntled counterpart.

"We're not going to Tesco's for our pigs in blankets - we're getting a chef to cook for us, honey!" Ms Berlucci exclaimed.

"I have a chef coming to cook for us. We're not going to Tesco's to get our £20 turkey. We're having a chef come in to cook for Christmas Day.

"People are invited. They're not forced to come. Actually, I'm very selective on who I invite. I wouldn't have any tap at my Christmas table, as you call it.

"Thank you for your concern. I've not come across hard times. It's just that I give people the option.

"They're not forced to come. They can do what they want. It's just that we hold it every single year and nobody else does. We have the 'tacky' big house, so people tend to come to us.

"So we just offered and it's more friends that came along and said, yeah, we want to do this.

"My friends aren't tacky, so they're willing to pay a couple of hundred pounds. We go to the Shard to eat. It costs £800, so it's actually quite a good deal.

"It depends if you're tacky and where you eat. You're not eating brussels sprouts from Tesco's."

With the surging cost of meat, chocolate and other festive treats across Britain, families have been flirting with the idea of charging guests for their Christmas dinner.

British homes could be spending 45 per cent on central Christmas food items this year, Tory Party data has suggested.

Rising costs have appeared to impact the likes of roast potatoes, carrots, Yorkshire puddings and stuffing.
