Police are hunting the suspected gunman following the 'highly distressing crime'

A young cat has sustained a serious brain injury, following an attack which left her partially sighted, following the removal of one of its eyes.

Two-year-old Toto was shot in the head by a pellet gun on Monday 6 June.

The cat was urgently rushed to the vets following the incident, and underwent extensive emergency treatment which led to the removal of its left eye.

Staffordshire Police are appealing for information after they attended the property in Hartshill on June 7.

Scott McGrath, Detective Inspector for Stoke-on-Trent South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is a highly distressing crime that caused serious injury to a defenceless animal.

"I would encourage anyone who knows anything about this offence to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Officers are currently conducting local inquiries in the area.
