Cambridge students 'complain of settling for shop-bought cakes' as college has no pastry chef

Undergraduate students within Corpus Christi College at Cambridge university have reportedly been complaining about having to settle for cakes purchased at a shop, after a recent staffing dispute left them without a dedicated pastry chef.

Complaints have centred around bulk bought food purchased for cost purposes over quality.

The University’s news site Varsity has reported news of a row between kitchen staff and management of the college, which appears to be the main cause of the ‘crisis’.

There are also reports of complaints over a lack of college formal dinners and black-tie social events since the loss and subsequent lack of kitchen staff.

Varsity reports that breakfast has been abandoned at both a main site and the college’s off-site accommodation, with catered food ‘scrapped altogether despite students being billed for it.’

Crucial roles, such as pastry chef, have been left unfilled but Corpus Christi College say staff shortages are small and “in common with many other colleges.
