A British expat has allegedly been "beaten to death" in a street in Canada after a heated argument.
Luke Kellett-Smith, 34, originally from Woking, Surrey, was out until the early hours of the morning on December 28 when he got into a physical altercation with another man.
He was allegedly involved in the confrontation with Benard Emeka Oneh, 30, at around 1:20am near the junction of Front Street West and University Avenue in Toronto.
Mr Kellett-Smith is said to have been struck to the ground by his attacker, before getting back to his feet and being struck again - this time losing consciousness.
While Oneh allegedly fled the scene, Mr Kellett-Smith was rushed to hospital and placed on life support. He then died on New Year's Eve.
The suspect was initially charged with aggravated assault before the charge was upgraded to manslaughter, and appeared in court on January 5.
The police say it is unknown whether the two men knew each other.
Mr Kellett-Smith had been living in Toronto since 2019, where he built a life "full of adventure, friendship, and possibility."

He was the eldest of three siblings, but had already lost his younger brother, James, meaning his parents, Nick and Mariella Smith, have now lost two of their three sons.
Mr Kellet-Smith was described as "a cherished son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend."
One of his closest friends, Jack Elton, described him as a "gentle giant" who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
"Luke truly loved life and lived it to the fullest, making friends and connections everywhere he went," he said.

"Whether you knew him for five minutes or for five years, Luke left a lasting impression.
"Standing at 6'5', Luke was a gentle giant in every sense. Kind, warm, and full of life, he had a heart as big as his presence."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help bring Mr Kellett-Smith home to his parents and to cover the costs of the funeral.
It has so far reached almost £28,000, 94 per cent of the original goal of £30,000.
Mr Kellet-Smith's "sudden and violent death" left his family "devastated beyond words," the page said.
"Luke was the eldest of three brothers," the fundraiser read. "His parents are now facing the unimaginable pain of having lost two of their three sons.
"No parent should ever have to endure such heartbreak, let alone twice."
The page says they aim to bring him back to Woking and lay him to rest next to his brother, help with the funeral costs and support the family as they navigate their grief.
