A thorough investigation is being conducted

A teenage girl has been taken to hospital and two police officers were assaulted during a disorder near Bournemouth beach.

Police were called to a disturbance involving a “large group” in the area of Pier Approach just before 7.30pm on Monday, June 30.

A teenage girl was reportedly injured and taken to hospital for treatment while two officers were said to be assaulted.

Shortly before the incident, Dorset Police confirmed it also received reports of a fight in the nearby Lower Gardens.

The force put a dispersal order in place on Monday covering areas including the seafront area and other locations in Bournemouth town centre.

The order gives officers additional powers to ask people who they believe could pose a risk of causing public disorder to leave the area.

Police have today confirmed three teenage girls and a 35-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection to the Lower Gardens incident, while a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker in relation to the incident on Pier Approach.

Local Policing Commander Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey said: “Violence and disorder on Bournemouth beach will absolutely not be tolerated and anyone who is identified as being involved will be robustly dealt with.

“I would like to provide some reassurance to our communities that we are taking action and have been working at pace to ensure we have all available resources in place to prevent any disorder.

“The beaches in our area are visited by many families with children and we want them to have a safe and enjoyable time.

“You can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area – this is to make sure that you feel safe and that any disruption is kept to a minimum.”

The force said detailed and thorough investigations are being carried out into what happened.

It comes as many Britons flock to the nation's beaches to enjoy the hot weather, with Bournemouth often proving a popular spot.

The heatwave continues today, with some parts of the country expected to see highs of 35C.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat health alert, which will remain in place until Wednesday, June 2.

The alert means that weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service, and could result in a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over.

The warning covers five major regions in Britain, including Yorkshire and the Humber, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East and the South West.

A yellow heat health alert has also been issued for the North West.

Yesterday marked the hottest day opening day of Wimbledon on record as temperatures soared to 31.4 degrees by 2pm.

It beat the previous record of 29.3 degrees, which was set in 2001.
