Several houses in the area were evacuated 'as a precaution', Greater Manchester Police said

Homes were evacuated and a bomb squad was sent in this afternoon following reports of an “incident” on a residential street in Greater Manchester.

Specialist explosives teams from a bomb disposal unit, a bomb disposal robot, and emergency services including police were seen on Ellesmere Street in Failsworth.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the incident had been ‘stood down’, but it is still unclear what prompted emergency services’ presence at the scene.

Earlier, police told GB News: “Emergency services are currently responding to an ongoing incident on Ellesmere Street in Failsworth.

“As a precaution, several houses in the area have been asked to evacuate while this work continues.

“People are being asked to avoid Ellesmere Street and its surrounding areas.”
