A car has smashed through a house in Bolton as frightened residents were evacuated by emergency services.

Officers were called to Highfield Road, in Farnworth at 10.50pm last night after a Nissan Note crashed into the front wall.


The 20-year-old driver was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed nobody else was injured during the collision.

Road closures remain in place near Highfield Road and the surrounding area.

Workers from a demolition company are reportedly set to "prop the house up and make it safer" after the car has been removed.

Residents have been evacuated from the property amid safety concerns.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Officers were called to an incident in Farnworth, Bolton last night at around 10:50pm involving a car crashing into a house.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"The driver, a 20-year-old man, is in hospital with serious injuries and thankfully no one else has been hurt.

"Road closures are in place on and around Highfield Road and a scene will remain on while we work with GMFRS to make the area safe and investigate how this happened."

Another car crashed into the side of a home yesterday in Warley, Essex with the driver also taken to hospital.

The Ambulance Service and fire service attended the scene while the air ambulance was also dispatched.

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.44pm with reports of a collision in Brackens Drive, Warley.

"We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team, an ambulance, two ambulance officer vehicles and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

"A man was taken to Queens Hospital by land ambulance for further care."
