Police said they raced to the scene after reports of a disorder involving weapons

Armed police have surrounded a house in Birmingham after an incident “involving weapons” led to a man barricading himself inside a property.

Police officers rushed to the property in Sparkbrook following reports of a disorder.

The incident is believed to have started last night but is currently ongoing.

One witness reportedly saw a man run out of a house with blood pouring from his head, according to the BBC.

Upon arriving at the scene, armed police said a man had barricaded himself inside.

According to the police service, no one else is thought to be inside the property.

“We are currently at a property in Osborn Road, Sparkbrook, following reports of a disorder involving weapons,” a spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said.

“Officers, including dedicated firearms officers, attended at just after 11.15pm last night and found a man had barricaded himself inside.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“Force negotiators are also at the scene and no one else is believed to be inside the property.

“The road remains cordoned off and neighbourhood officers are in the area to offer reassurance.”

One resident described the incident as “shocking”.

“My son saw the police at around 2am last night,” the resident told Birmingham Live.

“It’s quite shocking really, everyone just keeps to themselves around here.”

Another told the publication: “The police have been here throughout last night and the morning.

“I was really shocked when I saw it.

“Obviously, this area doesn’t have the best reputation but things like this don’t happen.

“This is a community, people look out for each other.”
