Tate and brother Tristain have denied all allegations made against them

Andrew Tate has threatened to sue one of his alleged victims for defamation.

The kickboxer and online influencer, 36, is currently being held in a Romanian prison along with his brother Tristan, 34, as the police investigate claims of rape and human trafficking.

Lawyers in the United States for the woman say she received a “cease and desist” letter from a law firm in December, the same month Tate and his brother were arrested.

The letter, seen by the BBC, says: “In April 2022 you falsely stated to a third party that our Client human trafficked you, abused you and held you against your will.

"You have repeated false and defamatory statements to the police, the media, and another United States citizen about the Tate brothers."

The woman and her parents were threatened to be sued for $300 million (£249 million).

Tate’s lawyers have confirmed the letter as real, but have said suggestions it is an intimidation tactic are untrue.

A former kickboxing world champion, Tate amassed millions of followers across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and TikTok before his arrest in Romania, where he is being detained.

He is facing allegations of human trafficking and being part of an organised crime gang. Tate denies all the allegations.

A spokesperson for Meta said Tate was banned in August 2022 from its Facebook and Instagram platforms for violating its policies, which forbid "gender-based hate, any threats of sexual violence, or threats to share non-consensual intimate imagery".

Tate said on a podcast in 2021 that he had started a webcam business in Britain that had peaked with 75 women working for him earning $600,000 a month.

He didn't elaborate in the podcast on what the women did.
