Nigel Farage has spoken out about the Air India disaster in Ahmedabad, revealing how the tragedy brings back memories of his own near-death experience.

"As someone who survived a plane crash myself, just barely, I shudder when I see incidents like this," the Reform UK leader told GB News.

Reflecting on the catastrophe that has claimed at least 110 lives, Farage offered a philosophical perspective on mortality.

"I tell myself that from the moment of conception to death, luck is the biggest factor in our lives.

According to the latest reports it is unlikely that there are any survivors from the disaster. The plane's signal disappeared "less than a minute" after takeoff, according to Flightradar.

The aircraft crashed into a doctors' hostel near the airport, with approximately 50 medical professionals potentially affected by the impact.

Local authorities have launched extensive rescue operations, with ambulances arriving at the scene and some roads closed to facilitate emergency response.

Farage's own brush with death occurred on election day in 2010, when a Ukip-promoting banner became entangled in his plane's tail fin, causing the aircraft to plummet to the ground.

"We've both had a miraculous escape. We are both very lucky to be alive," the spokesperson said at the time, referring to Farage and the pilot who also survived the crash.
