Tesco Clubcard customers warned 'don't miss out' as £17million worth of vouchers set to expire within hours
PA
Tesco has issued urgent warning as almost £17million worth of Clubcard vouchers are set to expire.
Customers are urged "don't miss out" as they can make sizeable savings with the supermarkets loyalty scheme.
The expiring Clubcard vouchers can be used towards the cost of the weekly shop, to pay for fuel or to pick up a great new deal with Tesco Mobile.
At the beginning of this month, Tesco warned £16.9million in vouchers still needed to be used which have been valid for the past two years.
The supermarket is encouraging customers to use the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app to check to see if any of their vouchers or reward codes are set to expire on May 31.
Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years from the date they were issued (unless people are able to extend them).
Tesco customers can unlock even more value by exchanging their Clubcard vouchers for 2x their value
PAThose unsure when their vouchers can check the date on their voucher if they have them in paper format.
If they've lost their paper vouchers, or are unsure if they had any in the first place, they can check on the Tesco Clubcard site or app.
Customers will need to have a registered Tesco.com account and must know their Clubcard number.
Moneysavingexpert.com shared a way that customers may be able to extend their vouchers. On its website it explained customer should make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page (not in store or on other Tesco pages) or donate to one of its partner charities before 11.59pm on May 31.
The remaining balance will then be credited back to their Clubcard account as points.
So if someone spends 50p using a £5 Clubcard voucher, they'll get 450 points back (worth £4.50).
It continued: "You can then swap your points for vouchers manually or wait for them to be converted with your next statement. The expiry date for these new vouchers will be two years in the future.
"There's no minimum spend, but the aim's to shell out as little as possible. A good option might be a 50p restaurant voucher (worth £1 at your chosen restaurant).
"You'll need to do this for each individual voucher, so it's worth weighing up if it's actually worth it for smaller denominations. For example, if you've a £10 voucher it could be worth it. If you've got a handful of £1 vouchers, maybe less so."
Once vouchers have been found, Britons can unlock even more value by exchanging the vouchers for 2x their value.
Tesco has partnered with 100+ Clubcard Reward Partners including PizzaExpress, Alton Towers Resort and Hotels.com.
500 points are usually worth £5 to spend at Tesco – but if customers exchange their vouchers for codes to use with a Reward Partner, 500 points become £10.
Millions of pounds worth of Clubcard Reward Partner codes are also expiring soon.
Tesco revealed that more than £27million of expiring codes for Clubcard Reward Partners need to be used over the next two weeks. This includes more than £16million worth of rewards for days out and eating out.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Earlier this month, Ashwin Prasad, Tesco chief commercial officer urged customers not to miss out.
He said: “Tesco Clubcard holders can use the power of Clubcard to unlock all sorts of Bank Holiday fun, from saving on their shopping when they pick up their BBQ food, or to exchanging for two times value with 100-plus Reward Partners, offering everything from fun days out for the family to meals out at some of the UK’s most-popular restaurant chains.
“With millions of vouchers expiring at the end of this month, I would encourage all our Clubcard holders to check to see if they have a reward code to use up, because we don’t want anyone to miss out.”
Those who take advantage of Tesco's Clubcard scheme can also save £360 annually, the supermarket claims.
This is by taking advantage of around 8,000 Clubcard Prices offers each week on everything from clothing and homeware to food and household products.
