The chain has entered administration following challenging recent trading

A UK pub chain with 16 bars across the country has collapsed into administration after struggling with challenging trading conditions.

One venue is set to close immediately, while the remaining sites will continue to operate as administrators explore rescue options.

Sixes, the cricket-themed entertainment bar chain, was backed by England cricket stars Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad.

The hospitality business, which operates 16 venues across England, announced the news today with its Southampton location shutting down with immediate effect.

Administrators from FRP Advisory were brought in on Wednesday to manage the process as the company seeks a buyer.

The chain, which has expanded as part of the competitive socialising boom alongside brands like Flight Club and Junkyard Golf, cited fierce market competition and reduced consumer spending as factors behind its struggles.

Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh established Sixes in 2020, creating a concept that blends traditional sports bar elements with indoor cricket net simulators where customers can play various games while enjoying drinks.

The business attracted significant investment two years ago when 4Cast Investment Group came on board, bringing with it the backing of current England Test captain Stokes, fast bowler Archer and former international turned broadcaster Broad.

Beyond its English operations, the company also runs a venue in the West Indies.

While the brand maintains that several of its sites continue to perform well and remain popular with customers, others have faltered amid tightening consumer budgets.

The remaining 15 sites will stay open while administrators pursue a potential rescue deal, with all future bookings being honoured.

FRP Advisory confirmed discussions are already underway with multiple interested parties regarding a possible sale of the business.

Sixes operates several locations across the London area, with additional venues in Leeds, Bristol, Bournemouth, Manchester, Birmingham, Guildford, High Wycombe and Oxford.

The administrators indicated that while certain locations have struggled against intensifying competition, the business retains considerable potential, with early expressions of interest from buyers focused on acquiring the brand and its strongest-performing sites.

Tony Wright, joint administrator and partner at FRP, said: "Sixes has built a strong brand in the social entertainment space with its unique venues proving very popular with customers.

"While some locations have struggled in an increasingly competitive market, the business has significant potential, and we're encouraged by the early interest we've received from parties interested in acquiring the brand and its strongest-performing sites.

"Our priority is to secure the best outcome for the business and its stakeholders while ensuring customers can continue to enjoy their bookings through the Christmas period and beyond.

"We're confident that with the right investment and focus, Sixes can build on its core strengths."
