Santander will close 38 bank branches across the UK this month, forming part of a sweeping wave of 399 branch closures expected by the end of 2025.
The July shutdowns represent the largest single contribution to the 41 branches set to close this month.
The closures follow Santander's earlier announcement to shutter 95 branches from June onwards, citing customers' increasing preference for digital banking over traditional branch visits.
This marks a significant acceleration in the decline of high street banking, with 69 branches closing in May and approximately 85 in June.
Cornwall has emerged as one of the regions most affected by the latest round of cuts, with four branches scheduled to close in July. The county's losses form part of a broader pattern of closures that will continue through the summer months.
August will see another 13 banks shut their doors permanently, followed by 21 more in September. The relentless pace of closures reflects a fundamental shift in how customers interact with their banks, as digital services increasingly replace face-to-face banking.
Major banks including NatWest, Lloyds Bank and Halifax have also announced significant branch reductions in response to changing customer preferences.

PAA Santander spokesman acknowledged the difficulty of the decision-making process, stating: "Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers."
They emphasised the bank's commitment to providing alternative services to affected customers.
They said: "However, we believe that the introduction of our new Community Bankers and the exciting plans we have for our remaining network of 349 branches and Work Cafés, alongside the rapid and innovative improvements to our award-winning mobile banking app, will provide the right balance of digital banking and human interaction when required."
The spokesperson emphasised the bank's commitment to providing alternative services to affected customers.

To address the impact of widespread closures, Santander has pledged to deploy Community Bankers in local libraries and community centres to assist customers who need help with banking services.
These measures form part of the bank's strategy to maintain customer support whilst transitioning to a more digitally-focused model.
The bank will retain 349 branches and Work Cafés across the UK, alongside what it describes as "rapid and innovative improvements" to its mobile banking application.
The shift towards digital banking has accelerated across the sector, with customers increasingly choosing online services over visiting physical branches, fundamentally reshaping the UK's banking landscape.
The total number of branch closures in July will be 41, as two other lenders have confirmed three more locations are being shut down.
Lloyds Bank will close two locations in Fakenham and Wadebridge, while Halifax will shut the doors of its Pontypridd location.
