Octopus Energy is now offering free Greggs coffee and weekly cinema tickets as well as money off energy bills

Octopus Energy has today announced more than one million customers could claim free days out.

The energy provider said households earning points in its “Octoplus” reward scheme can get free weekly coffee at Greggs, weekly two for £10 cinema tickets at ODEON and claim quarterly day passes at the National Trust and National Trust for Scotland.

The energy provider also announced a “surprise session” would take place this evening, meaning participants who sign up to take part can earn money off their energy bills if they shift their energy usage to outside the specific window tonight.

A post on the Savings Sessions X, formerly Twitter, account, read: "Surprise session: 5pm-6pm today. Opt in online..."

Customers who opt in online and reduce their energy consumption between this time could earn 1,400 Octopoints (worth £1.75) per kWh saved versus normal.

More than one million Octopus customers have signed up to Octoplus.

If they reduce their usage during the specified periods of high demand or check meter readings and spin the “wheel of fortune”, then they can gain Octopoints, that can be exchanged for account credit, merchandise or the aforementioned days out.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Octopus Energy Group, said: “Admittedly, submitting meter readings and keeping tabs on your energy account isn’t the most thrilling activity for everyone.

“That’s why we’ve designed ‘Octoplus’ - to make mundane energy tasks fun.

“Our customers are already getting paid for shifting their energy usage during grid stress, and now they can even get free drinks and cinema tickets on top.

“We’re chuffed to welcome epic brands such as Greggs, ODEON and both the National Trust and the National Trust for Scotland to the scheme, offering additional perks for our green-minded customers. But we won’t stop here, so watch this space.”

To qualify for Octoplus, customers must get electricity from Octopus Energy, have an operational electric smart meter which gives half hourly readings, and pay by Direct Debit.

Eligible customers should be able to sign up via the banner in their online account or app.

Octopoints can be exchanged into account credit or used to buy Octopus Energy merchandise.

Octopus Energy's new offers are:

  • A complimentary hot drink every week at Greggs just for being signed up to Octoplus
  • Weekly two for £10 cinema tickets at ODEON from Monday to Thursday, for people signed up to Octoplus
  • National Trust day pass for two, valued up to £44, for just 6,000 Octopoints (£7.50)-, available one a quarter
  • Once a quarter, the National Trust for Scotland will provide a day pass for two, valued at £22, for 6,000 Octopoints (£7.50).
