Over 100 Metro Bank customers have reported problems with the bank’s app and online services, according to outage tracker Downdetector

Metro Bank customers have been left unable to access their money today after a technical glitch caused widespread disruption to payments.

Furious users took to social media to complain about transactions being duplicated, leaving some accounts pushed into the red.

One customer on X wrote: “@Metro_Bank what is going on? All my transactions duplicated and is leaving me in minus/ no access to funds.” Another added: “I saw on TikTok someone say there is an IT issue .”

The bank confirmed it is experiencing problems with its payment systems.

In a statement on X, Metro Bank said: “We’re aware of this issue and our team is working to get this fixed as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please visit our status page for info on when this is fixed.”

On its website, Metro Bank explained: “We’re currently having issues with our payment services, so it may take longer to receive money into your account. We’re working to fix this as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.”

The disruption is affecting both incoming and outgoing payments. The bank warned that “it may take longer to send money to other accounts” while the issue is ongoing.

Personal customers have been urged to call 0345 0808 500 for support, while business account holders should contact 0345 0808 508. Metro Bank stressed that it will not charge for these calls, though mobile and landline providers may do so.

The bank added that customers can also visit branches for assistance and check store opening hours online.

The IT outage has sparked anger among account holders, many of whom rely on Metro Bank for day-to-day transactions. Some complained of being unable to pay bills or access wages, with duplicated payments leaving accounts overdrawn.

Metro Bank has not confirmed when the issue will be fully resolved, but said teams are “working as quickly as possible” to restore normal service.
