Halifax will close nine bank branches between June 2 and June 5, marking the latest phase in the bank's ongoing review of its branch network.
The first three closures will take place on Monday, June 2, affecting branches in Felixstowe, Gainsborough, and Kingsbury.
Another five closures are expected later in June, with additional branches across the country set to shut their doors in the coming weeks.
The decision reflects a broader trend across the banking sector as more customers opt for online and mobile banking services.
A busy high street
PAThe closures form part of Halifax's broader plan to shut 136 branches across its brands by March 2026, including 61 Halifax locations.
The bank, which is part of Lloyds Banking Group, announced this strategy at the start of 2025.
Halifax has stated that the affected branches have experienced a steady decline in footfall in recent years.
The decision reflects the banking sector's response to changing customer behaviour, with increasing numbers of people choosing digital banking options over traditional branch visits.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:A Halifax spokesman said: "Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money, and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking."
The bank emphasised that customers retain access to multiple banking channels beyond the closing branches.
"Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches," the spokesman added.
Halifax customers can also conduct everyday banking at over 11,000 Post Office branches or visit a Banking Hub for their banking needs.
Halifax
PAThe nine Halifax branches closing next week are spread across England and Wales.
Following the June 2 closures in Felixstowe, Gainsborough, and Kingsbury, three more branches will shut on June 3: Horsforth, Launceston, and Letchworth.
Two additional closures are scheduled for June 4, affecting branches in Bournemouth and Leek.
The final closure of the week will take place on June 5 in Mold, Wales.
The geographic spread of the closures demonstrates the nationwide scope of Halifax's branch reduction programme, affecting communities from the south coast of England to market towns across the Midlands and Wales.
