Savers have benefited from a period of high interest rates in recent years

Savers in the UK are looking for the best deals from banks and building societies following the Bank of England's latest interest rate cut.

Earlier this month, the central bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted to slash the base rate to four per cent in a win for borrowers, however analysts have warned savings accounts could take a hit.

Experts from Moneyfactscompare have compiled a list of the best savings accounts for the week beginning September 1, 2025.

Britons are being reminded to lock down deals offering interest rates of up to 7.5 per cent before banks begin to make cuts.

Adam French, Head of News at Moneyfactscompare.co.uk, said: "After several weeks of savings rate cuts, there is some good news for savers who are looking to lock their money away with several new top paying fixed rate bonds.

"However, plenty of accounts have cut rates and some of the top paying easy access accounts have fallen too.

"Locking down a market-leading savings rate is important with inflation now forecast to hit four per cent before too long. The good news is that the market remains competitive despite many providers slashing rates in recent weeks.”

Mr French said: "There are plenty of accounts that have cut rates and some of the top paying easy access accounts have fallen too. As a result, the Moneyfacts Average Savings Rate is dropped from 3.47 per cent last week to 3.46 per cent today.

"Chetwood Bank has made some positive moves in the fixed-rate bond market with the top paying 1-, 2-, and 3-year accounts – paying up to 4.50 per cent for those who can afford to lock their money away.

"It’s easy access savings and ISA accounts where we have seen some of the biggest cuts, with a couple of the formerly best paying accounts falling away. Although this should come as little surprise given that easy access accounts are often the most vulnerable to base rate cuts."
