NatWest customers are being urge to check if their local branch is closing down for good

NatWest is set to close dozens of branches next month in a blow to the high street bank's millions of customers.

In June 2025, NatWest will shut down down 24 locations amid changing consumer habits and a push towards online banking services.

Bank branch closures have become the norm in recent years with consumer champion Which? warning that high street financial institutions have closed 6,000 sites for good since 2015.

NatWest Group, which comprises NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank, has shut 1,360 outlets – the most of any banking group.

A NatWest spokesman said: "Our customers are using digital banking more than ever before – over 80 per cent of our active current account holders now use our digital services and over 97 per cent of retail accounts with us are now opened online.

"We are also significantly investing in refreshing our network – we expect to invest in excess of £20million in our network across the UK in 2025 to improve customer service, enhance the look and feel of our branches, and reduce the environmental impact of our buildings, as well as continuing to invest in shared solutions like the Post Office and Banking Hubs.

“Like any business, we strive to meet our customers’ changing needs and expectations and we’ve been responding to the industry wide shift towards digital services by investing to broaden what customers can do themselves and to offer them greater personalisation."

Sam Richardson, the deputy editor of Which? Money, said: "This milestone of more than 6,000 bank branch closures in just nine years underscores the seismic shift that has taken place in terms of our banking habits and the character of the British high street.

"While some may hardly notice the closure of their local branch as they seamlessly switch to online banking, for others reliant on face-to-face services, the impact can be disastrous.

"It's not about halting closures altogether, but ensuring that essential banking services remain accessible to those who still rely on them. It is crucial that the government prioritises opening more hubs quickly, so that people aren’t left behind."
