GB News membership readers were asked whether they think the far left trying to dismantle British society

GB News’ Charlie Peters has hit out at a far-left event amid a debate on whether GB News should be shut down.

The media event hosted by the Media Reform Coalition at Sheffield University was titled 'How do you solve a problem like GB News?' and openly called for GB News to be shut down.

Speaking to Bev Turner and Andrew Pierce on Britain's Newsroom, Charlie revealed event speakers said the broadcaster is fuelling the “far-right” through “tropes” and one audience member slammed the channel as a “fascist news network”.

“When I spoke at the end they asked why I wasn't on the panel and why I didn't introduce myself at the beginning instead of sitting at the back and just listening, but I wanted them to be able to speak as if GB News were not there, to speak openly and freely and in doing so they said some rather loopy things.

“One of the people on the panel said 'I can't bear to watch GB News' but they were on a panel trying to solve it.”

Charlie also revealed how Michael Crick, who has written for The Daily Mail and is a former Political Editor of the BBC's Newsnight programme, heavily criticised the channel and claimed it should be shut down despite having appeared on it numerous times.

“Another person referred to the rise of the far-right and said that we were fuelling it,” Charlie added.

Later in the show, Bev Turner hit out at the Welsh Senedd, after the Parliament spent £233,000 on a new TV and digital signage system which has been used to block GB News from its output.

Speaking at the time the channel was first blocked from the Senedd's networks, a spokesperson said the move was “following a recent broadcast that was deliberately offensive, demeaning to public debate and contrary to our parliament’s values”.

97 per cent of GB News members who voted in the poll agree with the statement that the far left is trying to dismantle British society, while three per cent disagree.
