The England international is in the spotlight ahead of his side's Bundesliga clash with Vfl Bochum

When Harry Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich back in the summer, it seemed to be a move that would suit all parties.

Spurs would get a big fee, Bayern would get a superstar and Kane would finally win a few trophies - having gone through his career with no silverware to show for it so far.

However, ahead of Bayern's Bundesliga showdown with Vfl Bochum, Kane's dream seems to be turning into a nightmare.

He has, of course, delivered goals. 28 of them across all competitions, with the 30-year-old registering an impressive eight assists as well.

Kane has become the talisman of this Bayern team ahead of the likes of Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer.

But Bayern aren't clicking and, as Sunday's match looms, Kane finds himself in the uncomfortable position of being made a scapegoat.

He has been mocked and vilified on social media, with fans eager to stick the knife into the forward.

But Kane isn't the problem at Bayern, as his goalscoring form proves, and the German giants would be considerably worse off without him.

The veteran is part of a Bayern team considerably weaker than in previous years, through no fault of his own.

Sane, Alphonso Davies and perhaps Serge Gnabry aside, Bayern lack the superstars of old.

They are still reliant on veterans such as Neuer and Muller, two players who have conquered all during their careers in football.

And Tuchel himself must shoulder the blame, having fallen out with many at the club during his time as manager.

Bayern thought the grass was greener when they ruthlessly sacked Julian Nagelsmann in March last year, shocking the world of football in the process.

Nagelsmann had been on course to win a treble but, in the end, was dispatched after key players lost faith in the 36-year-old - as well as the club's board of directors.

Tuchel was immediately given the keys to the Allianz and it seemed like a shrewd decision at the time.

After all, having achieved success at the likes of Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, it seemed natural that he'd be able to take Bayern to the next level.

But Tuchel has been far too combative for his own good. His feud with Joshua Kimmich, a player loved by fans of both Germany and Bayern, has played out publicly to make matters worse.

Then there is, of course, the need for perspective.

Those mocking Kane seem to believe the season is already over, despite there being plenty of matches left to play over the next two-and-a-half months.

That is certainly not the case, however.

Bayer Leverkusen look well-poised to win the Bundesliga this season, with Xabi Alonso's side yet to lose a match. Certainly, the Spaniard's audition for the Liverpool job is going well.

But Borussia Dortmund were in a similar position 12 months ago and bottled it on the final day of the season.

Kane has urged Bayern to maintain their hunt for the trophy and, with just five points separating the two teams, the title race looks poised to go to the wire.

Their hopes of Champions League glory were dented with a 1-0 defeat away at Lazio in midweek.

Yet Bayern can't be ruled out of that competition either, especially with the second leg to be played out on home soil.

Kane is no jinx and the best, most complete striker in the world.

No other player deserves a trophy more.
