Tesco shared it will make a big change to essential products

Tesco will change the packaging on its own brand pocket tissues.

It will make the update on the winter essential items to cut back on waste.

Plastic packaging will be scrapped on the pocket tissue multipacks.

Instead, this will be replaced by recyclable paper in a bid to be more environmentally-friendly.

The change will help save more than 55 million pieces of soft plastic, Tesco reports.

The retailer has already started making the change on Tesco's Gentle White and Balm tissues.

The new paper packaging is FSC-certified and Tesco is the first to introduce this packaging on pocket tissues.

Tesco campaigns manager Courtney Pallett said: “Unlike boxes of tissues, the pocket version tends to be used on the go and can all too easily become litter.

"The new paper packaging works just as well as the old plastic wrap but is more sustainable.”

This is one of many updates Tesco has made to cut back on packaging waste.

It has removed around 2.2 billion pieces of plastic since 2019.

This includes removing extra lids from products such as wipes, creams, yoghurts and desserts.

Tinned multipacks are no longer plastic wrapped and plastic wrapping was removed from cans of branded beers and cider.

Tesco also reduced the amount of waste by removing more than 200 million bags from Tesco.com deliveries.

This comes as Asda overhauls its food range with new packaging and never-before-seen options.

The retailer has introduced a new range that will help shoppers make healthier choices, starting from just 75p.
