The move will mean that customers can receive groceries at rapid speeds without having to leave their homes

Tesco has given 1,000 of its stores a huge upgrade that is expected to be welcomed by many of its customers.

The supermarket chain has introduced “Whoosh” to a number of its Express stores.

The service promises “last-minute meals and everyday essentials delivered in as little as 30 minutes – for just £2.99”.

It launched in 2021 and can be used for customers in half of Tesco’s Express stores in the UK.

Customers wanting to take advantage must create an account on the Tesco website and can use Whoosh from 7am to 10pm every day of the week.

Shoppers must also spend a minimum of £15 to use the service on top of the delivery fee.

Tesco’s website explains: “There isn’t a limit on the number of items, as it’s based on the weight and size of products.

“We’ll automatically check your basket as you shop and let you know if you need to remove anything. There is no minimum spend, but orders under £15 will incur an additional charge.”

“You’ll collect Clubcard points on all the products in your Whoosh order. For every £1 spent, you'll get one Clubcard point.

“You won't collect Clubcard points on delivery or minimum order value charges.”

Customers can find out if they are eligible to use the service by using the store locator on the Tesco website.

Head of Whoosh at Tesco, Greg Bertrand, said: “Our Whoosh service is rolling out at a rapid pace, opening in two Express stores a day on average this year.

"We’ve beaten our own target and we are seeing growing evidence that customers love the quality, speed and convenience of the service."

Earlier this month Tesco angered customers by cutting the value of its Clubcard rewards scheme.

The scheme allows shoppers to collect points for money and exchange them for vouchers which can be used in store or for restaurant meals and day trips.

But Tesco announced that it would be slashing their value, points will be worth twice their value when cashed in, rather than three times as they are now.

The move takes place from June 14.
