A nutritionist has listed three fruits that combat signs of ageing

Diet can play a surprisingly vital role in the ageing process, with certain foods capable of reducing age-related symptoms.

Evidence is growing that the nutritional profiles of fruit have significant anti-ageing effects on the skin. This includes avocados, watermelon and pomegranate.

The antioxidant effects of the organic produce are particularly helpful in combatting free radical damage as the body ages.

Increasing the intake of fruit and vegetables is therefore a rational starting point in boosting defences against age-related symptoms.

Certain foods, however, have unparalleled plumping effects on the skin thanks to their high water content, a nutrition expert has pointed out.

Kathryn Danzey, health coach at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, has flagged three foods for their unparalleled anti-ageing effects.

The expert told GB News: “Watermelons are full of water, which subsequently helps to hydrate both the body and skin.

“Keeping the body hydrated will boost skin elasticity, keeping your complexion looking plump and fresh.

“Watermelon is also brimming with the antioxidant lycopene, which helps to protect the skin from sun damage.”

The fruit has been extensively studied for its potential to delay the skin’s ageing process, with several studies highlighting its ability to neutralise free radicals.

Similarly, pomegranate packs a generous amount of potent phytochemicals that have comparable effects.

“Some studies have shown that pomegranates can repair damaged skin and boost collagen,” Kathryn added.

In other words, the fruit helps strengthen the building blocks that maintain the elasticity of the skin.

The expert went on to describe the unique role of avocado in the diet, which, unlike the aforementioned fruits, contains anti-ageing fats.

Avocados pack a generous amount of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, which work together to support healthy skin.

“Avocados are rich in healthy fats, as well as fibre and potassium,” noted Kathryn Danzey. “This unique combination helps to nourish the skin from within.
