The 53-year-old raved about the latest trend that's taken TikTok by storm

As you get older, it's increasingly important to look after your skin correctly to ward off unwanted fine lines and wrinkles.

However, plenty of these lines do not come from ageing but dehydration. Consequently, it's crucial to keep on top of keeping your visage hydrated.

While drinking water can help with this from the inside out, it is just as helpful to start to incorporate more techniques to assist with water absorption and retention.

Thankfully, beauty guru Annamaria Kalebic, who goes by @annamariakalebic online, is a 53-year-old skin care enthusiast and has shared her tips on how to keep your complexion looking "really bouncy and plump".

Annamaria shared the 'game-changing' technique on TikTok

In fact, she recently shared a "game-changing" technique which helped her skin care last all day, which she has now incorporated into her daily skin care regimen.

"I thought I'd cracked the code on skin care over 50, but clearly I hadn't because now I've tried skin flooding, which is where you layer lots of toners, before you add your skin care with active ingredients," she shared.

Raving about its wide-ranging benefits, Annamaria told followers: "It preps, it hydrates, it makes your skin care last all day."

First, she starts off by cleansing her skin with a gentle cleanser. With her skin still damp, she deploys a cellular water mist, full of hyaluronic acid and antioxidants.

"With skin flooding, you always go from the thinnest to the thickest," she advised, with the thinnest being the "watery-type toners" while the thicker ones appear milkier.

"Toners are great for getting your pH balance to where it needs to be - you can then get the benefit from the skin care that follows," the TikToker explained.

Applying several layers of each product, Annamaria recommended following your thicker toners with essence. The dampness of your skin will facilitate the continued absorption of products.

After, apply your actives and then "lock in" everything with a moisturiser and an additional SPF if you’re getting ready for the day.

Annamaria raved about how her skin just 'drinks up' the moisture

Explaining how the skin just "drinks it up", Annamaria gushed: "I just love the way my skin has transformed recently."

And her followers echoed her enthusiasm, with one commenting that it was a "game-changer", while another raved: "Completely changed my skin, hydrated and glowing now!"

Another asked if Annamaria had started to incorporate the technique into her routine, to which she responded: "Yes, absolutely. It’s made my skin look so much more hydrated - I'm hooked!"

Declaring that it’s suitable for all skin types, skin care gurus at Dermalogica firmly advocate the technique. They specifically note that it’s "always recommended" to assist with "even product absorption", as well as making the most out of your products.

The experts added that it helps "to build skin’s barrier and healthy skin function" by stripping back to the absolute "basics" of skin care.
