Sainsbury's has made another change to its Nectar card in a bid to take on rival Tesco

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's has announced a major change to its Nectar card to reward customers.

The grocery store is offering discounts on 900 products for Nectar cardholders when they shop in store and online.

Nectar shoppers will be able to benefit from savings on essential and other food items across Sainsbury's stores.

Items which have been slashed include food, health, beauty, beers, wines, households, baby and pet products.

And for the first time, customers will receive discounts on dairy and bakery products with up to 50 per cent off on selected items.

Earlier this year, Sainsbury's was offering price cuts on 300 branded items for Nectar card users.

These customers will still have personalised offers when they use Smartshop with Your Nectar Prices.

Similar to the Tesco Clubcard, the Nectar Prices scheme also applies discounts to anyone scanning their card at the checkout.

Those who don’t have a Nectar card can still easily access Nectar Prices by downloading the app.

Members can also continue to use personalised discounts of up to 30 per cent on their favourite items when they use the SmartShop app to scan their items in-store.

Each week, customers will find personalised lower prices for certain items.

In addition, card members can also earn one Nectar point for every £1 spent at Sainsbury's when shopping at certain other stores including Esso, Asos, eBay, Expedia, Habitat and Argos.
