A jewellery item sold by the supermarket contains "elevated nickel value which exceeds the legal limit"

Sainsbury's is the latest supermarket to issue a product recall as shoppers are made aware that a jewellery product could cause an allergic reaction.

Beeline Belly Bar by Beeline contains "elevated nickel value" found in part of the bar.

The supermarket told customers: "Sainsbury’s has been made aware that Beeline is recalling its Beeline Belly bar due to an elevated nickel value found in part of the bar which exceeds the legal limit. Wearing this bar could cause an allergic reaction.

"If you have purchased one of the above affected products, please return the product to any Sainsbury's store for a full refund.

"For any further information, contact Beeline's Consumer Services team at product.safety@beeline-group.com.

"No other Beeline products have been affected by this issue. Beeline would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Beeline Group also has a recall notice on its official website. The Beeline Belly Bar is retailed at £13 and is part of the 'accessories' collection.

Allergy UK provided some information on nickel allergy. Experts explained: "Nickel allergy commonly develops following ear piercing and the use of metal jewellery.

"European Union legislation currently limits the amount of nickel released from metals in prolonged contact with the skin and it is hoped that the allergy may become less common in the future. The allergy results in the development of localized eczema/dermatitis." For more information on nickel allergy, Britons can consult Allergy UK.

Product recalls should always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety. Parents and carers were recently notified that a product sold at The Range and Wilko poses a "choking risk" to children.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) shared that Gingerbread Shaped Cushions sold at both retailers have been recalled.

The OPSS stated: "The products present a risk of choking as it has been identified that the red pom poms can easily detach and form a small part capable of fitting inside of a small parts cylinder.

"The product is deemed to be child-appealing therefore, if the child were to pull on the pom pom and cause it to detach, the child may place the small part in their mouth and choke."

Customers who have purchased the product have been given guidance on what to do.

Britons should also keep up-to-date with supermarket recalls. Lidl shoppers were recently warned that two foods may contain pieces of copper.
