The sultry side part, bedhead texture, 60s hair flick, and hair bow ponytail are the iconic looks of the season

Know what you're wearing to the office Christmas party, but are clueless when it comes to hair? Four styles will trump all others this winter, according to the experts.

If you've got a busy month of festivities ahead of you, the sultry side part, bedhead texture, 60s hair flick, and hair bow ponytail are the way to go.

Here, two hair gurus shared how women can achieve these looks in a matter of minutes.

Sultry side part

The sultry side part is making a major comeback after years of middle part domination, marking the resurgence of "bombshell volume".

To get it right, the "ultimate" prep for a deep side parting is a styling powder," said Tom Smith, the global hairstylist who co-founded AEVUM Salon and sits on the British Beauty Council Hair Committee.

Celebrity hairstylist Jason Collier from Studio23 suggested fighting humidity with an anti-humidity spray on damp hair. You'll proudly boast a "sharp, sculpted, and lifted" part all night, he explained.

Bedhead texture

Bedhead texture and messy waves are influencing runways everywhere this party season, with fashion houses showcasing deliberately tousled looks.

"Creating the texture intentionally first, before applying a texture spray, is crucial," Mr Smith advised. He suggests using a curling iron to add movement before applying texture spray, and recommends using gravity while spraying for extra lift.

Mr Collier emphasises the importance of being deliberately imperfect. He starts with a lightweight moisturising cream to prevent frizz, then uses tongs on random sections only.

"Alternate the direction of each curl, then, break everything up with your fingers and finish with a texture mist," he instructed.

1960s flick

The 1960s hair flick is also having a moment, offering a wearable statement style for the season –particularly on bobs and mid-length cuts.

"The 60s flick is iconic, but the modern version is all about a softer curve rather than a rigid flip," cautioned Mr Collier. "Avoid too much volume at the crown, keep the roots sleek and let the drama happen at the edges."

Meanwhile, Mr Smith recommends achieving the look with a round brush and hairdryer rather than specialised tools. "A small round brush can encourage an outward flick at the ends," he explained.

The contemporary take features soft, buoyant movement at the ends whilst maintaining sleek roots.

Bows on ponytails

Bows on ponytails are trending this festive season, with fashion houses like Versace showcasing hair accessories on runways.

"I recommend either a tiny bow or an oversized one, which keeps it high fashion rather than twee," said Mr Smith. "Opt for silk, velvet or glossy and modern-looking materials."

Jason Collier suggests securing the ponytail with a hairband first. "This allows the bow to act as decoration rather than also being functional," he explains.

For placement, Collier loves "pairing a velvet or satin bow with a super-sleek low pony. For a high ponytail, place the bow slightly above the elastic to elongate the silhouette."

But it's important to note that even the chicest hairstyle cannot make up for poor hair care.
