The product contains mustard, which is not mentioned on the label

Tesco shoppers who purchased a specific batch of the supermarket's Celery, Fruit & Nut Salad face potential health risks.

The affected 300g salads, bearing a use-by date of December 2, 2025, contain mustard that was not declared on the packaging, prompting an urgent product recall.

The contamination poses serious concerns for those with mustard allergies or intolerances.

An official alert has been issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) regarding the mislabelled product.

Customers who have purchased the affected salad and are allergic or intolerant to mustard have been advised: "Don't eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."

Tesco has implemented measures to alert customers about the recall, including point-of-sale notices in stores. These notices provide details about the recall and outline the steps customers should follow.

Those seeking additional information can reach out to Tesco through various channels listed on the supermarket's customer service web page.

The FSA has coordinated with Tesco to ensure widespread notification of the recall, including direct communication with allergy support groups, who will inform their members about the potential danger.

It's important to note that the recall specifically targets the salad batch bearing the December 2 use-by date, while other batches of the same product remain unaffected by the mustard contamination.

Symptoms of a mustard allergy

Mustard is one of the 14 major allergens and must always be mentioned on a label or menu when it is used as an ingredient in any food.

Allergy UK warned: "Mustard allergy can affect people of any age. As with any food allergy, the signs and symptoms can vary and will affect people differently.

"Allergy symptoms that have been reported range from mild symptoms such as pollen food syndrome, hives and vomiting, to the most severe form of an allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) requiring the use of adrenaline."

Anaphylaxis should always be treated as a medical emergency.

About allergy alerts

The FSA explained: "Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

"Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an allergy alert."

The recall comes shortly after Tesco shoppers were warned about unsafe meat, with the supermarket admitting to "incorrect cooking".

Westaway Sausages Ltd has issued an urgent recall for its 380g Hog's Pudding, carrying a use-by date of December 10, 2025.

Customers were advised to follow the typical recall process: avoid consumption and return the product to their nearest Tesco.
