Customers have been advised to return the sauce to their nearest store for a full refund

Asda has issued an urgent recall for Baba's Sweet & Spicy Sauce after fermentation was discovered in some batches, creating potentially dangerous pressure inside the bottles.

The supermarket chain warned customers that bottle caps could "come off with force" when opened, or the bottles themselves might shatter.

The fermentation process has created a safety hazard that requires immediate action from anyone who has purchased the affected product.

Customers have been advised to return the sauce to their nearest Asda store for a full refund.

The supermarket recall affects sauce bottles with a best before date of June 2026, with specific batch codes identified as problematic.

The affected product carries the barcode 506500419700 and displays a date code of 06 2026.

Seven specific batch codes have been identified in the recall: 270502, 280503, 060605, 100602, 110603, 120604 and 160601.

Asda told shoppers: "If you have purchased Baba's Sweet & Spicy Sauce date coded 06/2026 with [the affected batch codes], please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt."

This comes just weeks after Asda issued an urgent safety alert as a home furnishing item poses a fire hazard.

Food and product recalls must always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety, as they can pose significant health risks to consumers.

The importance of heeding such warnings is highlighted by another recent recall involving Noesis Schokolade Love of Dubai Chocolate.

Noesis Schokolade Love of Dubai Chocolate contains undeclared peanuts

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) urgently warned shoppers that the product contains undeclared peanuts, posing "serious health risks" to allergy sufferers.

Officials instructed food businesses across the UK to "immediately stop sales and undertake product withdrawals" due to the severe danger it presents to those with peanut allergies.

The affected Dubai chocolate is sold in 95g packs, with all lot numbers and best before dates included in the alert.

The FSA urged shoppers: "Don't buy this product, and if you have bought it, don't eat it, especially if you have a peanut allergy.

"Dispose of the product at home and get in touch with your local Trading Standards in Great Britain or Environmental Health Officers in Northern Ireland to let them know where you purchased it."

The recall process has been complicated by the supplier's unavailability. The FSA revealed that "businesses have been supplied these products by a company called Black Sea Trading Ltd, who have so far been uncontactable".

Peanut allergies can trigger severe reactions, with symptoms occurring within minutes of contact.
