The addition of high-quality protein to the diet may assist calorie burn

Weight loss has become synonymous with lowering food intake, but sometimes it’s dietary the additions that make a real difference to our waistline.

Upping protein intake is a pivotal aspect of every weight loss journey because it plays a unique role in the body’s physiology.

What’s more, protein sources like fish are beneficial for belly fat because they contribute to muscle mass and a faster metabolism.

Abbas Kanani, from Chemist Click, told GB News about some ways fish can assist a person's weight loss journey and reduce their waist circumference over time.

“Fish is an excellent source of high-quality protein,” the expert said. “Fish is also relatively low in calories compared to other sources of protein and its nutrient density and healthy fats help to regulate metabolism, reduce inflammation and promote fat loss.”

High-quality proteins are highly beneficial for weight loss because they promote long-term satiety, helping control appetite and reduce overall calorie intake.

Due to the quality of their protein, salmon, mackerel, sardines and trout may be among the most beneficial to long-term metabolic health, explained Abbas.

He went on: “Lean fish, such as cod and haddock, are low in fat and calories compared to fatty fish. White fish like halibut and sea bass tend to be lower in fat and calories compared to both fatty and lean fish.”

The expert added that fatty fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids may be most "helpful in tackling visceral fat", which sits deep within the abdominal cavity, where it can neither be seen nor prodded.

“This type of fat is hidden inside your body on and around your vital organs and is linked to various conditions such as insulin resistance, inflammation, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease,” he explained.

Belly fat can present a medical liability when left untackled, so the earlier people take action, the better their health will fare in years to come.

Failure to address a growing waste line can pave the way to all sorts of metabolic disturbances, including diabetes.

Abbas pointed out: “While all types of fish can be part of a healthy diet and support weight loss, it’s essential to consider factors such as portion size, cooking methods, and your overall dietary balance when incorporating fish into a weight loss plan.”

Regular exercise, good quality sleep, and hydration are also essential to ensure long-term results.
