While dietary adjustments are usually the first step in weight loss programmes, a complete overhaul isn't always called for.
Simply adding grains to an eating plan, for instance, can offer a package of health benefits for those looking to shed a few pounds.
In fact, Professor Franklin Joseph, who leads Dr Frank's Weight Loss Clinic, identifies dietary fibre as crucial for managing weight effectively.
The overlooked grain, priced at just 10p per portion, could prove more effective for weight management than fashionable health foods commanding premium prices.

Wheatgerm refers to the nutrient-dense heart of wheat kernels and offers exceptional value compared to popular options such as chia seeds, flax and quinoa.
Yet, they remain largely forgotten despite containing one of the highest concentrations of dietary fibre and essential micronutrients available in supermarkets.
Professor Frank argued that the affordability of the ingredient makes it particularly appealing when expensive wellness products dominate the market.
"Fibre is the unsung hero of weight management," he explained, noting how it moderates digestion speed, regulates blood glucose levels and extends feelings of fullness, thereby preventing excessive eating.
The specialist also explained that wheatgerm provides exceptional fibre density, despite being largely overlooked by consumers.
"Wheatgerm is an incredibly concentrated source of fibre, yet most people have forgotten it even exists," Professor Joseph noted.
A mere two-tablespoon serving delivers approximately 6g of dietary fibre, representing 20 per cent of the recommended daily intake.
"It's an easy, affordable fix for a gap in most people's diets," the expert observed.
Beyond its impressive fibre content, wheatgerm delivers substantial quantities of B vitamins, vitamin E, magnesium and plant-derived protein.
"These nutrients don't just help with weight loss, they support energy levels, muscle recovery and even skin health," Professor Joseph explained, describing it as "a forgotten superfood".
On top of that, the ingredient's mild, nutty-flavoured flakes integrate seamlessly into various meals.
Professor Joseph suggests incorporating two to three tablespoons daily. He advised: "Stir it into porridge, add it to overnight oats, sprinkle on fruit, or even mix into soups and stews."
A gradual introduction to allow digestive adjustment, according to the expert. It will teach dieters how traditional ingredients can outperform modern alternatives in weight loss.
"Wheatgerm shows that sometimes the simplest, most old-fashioned foods are the most effective," the specialist stated.

"With its fibre punch, nutrient profile and low cost, it's one of the best bargains in nutrition - and a secret weapon for anyone looking to lose weight and stay full."
In fact, Professor Joseph has long advocated for prioritising basic, economical foods rather than costly wellness trends.
"People often spend a fortune chasing exotic powders or supplements when the real answers are sitting on the shelves for pennies," he noted.
A 500g packet typically retails at £2.49, positioning it among the most economical nutritional enhancements available.
