Tesla operates more than 14,000 Superchargers across Europe

Tesla has announced a number of changes to its electric vehicle charging infrastruture, designed to give its customers greater access to facilities around the UK.

In total, Tesla operates 1,400 Supercharger devices around the United Kingdom and Ireland at 140 different sites.

The Elon Musk-led brand aims to have an impressive 99 per cent uptime across its network, with 42 of its sites being open to any electric vehicle equipped with CCS charging capabilities, allowing drivers to make use of 477 chargers.

Since April 13, Tesla launched a new membership model for all Supercharger network customers and cut prices for all EV owners.

All electric vehicle owners will be able to access lower Supercharging rates with a membership, with all Tesla members automatically being members.

Monthly membership prices have also changed, with drivers being able to use the Superchargers from £8.99 per month, down from £10.99 previously.

Tesla has also launched a new annual membership option, offering a 16 per cent discount compared to the monthly option, with drivers paying £90 a year.

Any non-Tesla electric vehicle owner who takes advantage of the annual membership will be able to access member rates for Superchargers.

Customers with an active membership will benefit from the automatically reduced monthly fee.

Alternatively, they can switch to a yearly membership plan. As part of this, their Tesla app must be updated to version 4.32 or above.

Commenting on the new changes, Tesla stated: "With this update, Tesla owners will continue to enjoy a seamless and fully integrated Supercharging experience at lower member rates than non-membership prices, while all EV owners will have more affordable options to choose from.

"Supercharging without a membership will remain available at stations accessible to all EV drivers, while Supercharging rates will continue to be updated regularly to provide affordable, fast charging for all EV drivers."

According to Zapmap data, Tesla's Supercharger network has the second-largest market share of rapid and ultra-rapid devices, falling just behind InstaVolt.

The research, from the end of March, shows that there are 1,376 Tesla Superchargers and 1,495 InstaVolt devices, ahead of other brands like BP Pulse, Osprey and Gridserve.

The Supercharger network is the largest fast-charging infrastructure around the world and is the most extensive system across Europe.

There are more than 14,000 Superchargers at 1,100 locations around Europe, with 70 per cent of the network open to non-Tesla electric vehicles.
