The Tesco Clubcard offer is available at more than 600 stores with EV charging facilities

Drivers will now be able to earn Tesco Clubcard points when charging their electric vehicles, thanks to a new service launching today.

Tesco has announced the extension of its partnership with electric vehicle chargepoint operator Pod to allow drivers to earn Clubcard points when they do their shopping.

Clubcard members can now collect one Clubcard point for every pound spent at Pod's Vauxhall-branded chargers at Tesco stores around the country.

Further offers are available, which could see electric vehicle drivers earn 2,500 Clubcard points when signing up to Pod's Pod Drive home charging scheme as a new customer.

The points can be converted into £25 Clubcard vouchers to spend at Tesco, or £50 when doubled in value with Clubcard Reward Partners.

The Pod Drive scheme can help drivers slash £1,000 off the typical upfront cost of installing a home EV charger.
Shama Wilson, Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty Director, said: "Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles we are delighted that shoppers will now be able to collect Clubcard points when they charge their cars at our stores, thanks to our exciting partnership with Pod.
"You can now park at your local Tesco and top-up your electric vehicle while you shop, in the knowledge that you are collecting Clubcard points towards a future Tesco shop or to exchange with one of our Reward Partners."

More than 14.3 million charging sessions have taken place at Tesco's Pod chargers since 2019

The new partnership follows Pod's recent rebrand from Pod Point. Any Pod chargers will retain the previous branding and sit along the Pod Drive offering under the new brand.

As part of the partnership, Pod, Tesco and Vauxhall operate more than 2,600 electric vehicle charging bays at over 600 Tesco stores.

Data shows that electric vehicles have been charged more than 14.3 million times at Pod charging stations at Tesco stores since the start of the partnership in 2019.

Under the previous Pod Point branding, the company is the third-largest network of electric vehicle charging devices.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

In total, it has around 5,635 devices, placed just behind Connected Kerb (6,059) in second place and Shell Recharge Ubitricity (9,458) in first.

Melanie Lane, CEO of Pod, said the brand was "thrilled" to extend its partnership with the major supermarket, with drivers being able to benefit from extra incentives.

She added: "We know that the more that EVs blend with people's everyday routines, the more it makes sense to go electric, and with our unique partnership, we're able to align drivers' charging experiences across both home and public charging points.

"Fresh from repositioning the business as Pod and launching Pod Drive, we're committed to building momentum and bringing our brilliant partners on our mission: to make EV charging easy and affordable for everyone."

The expanded partnership follows a groundbreaking announcement from Labour, which pledges to remove red tape from the process of installing home and public EV chargers.

When looking to install a new electric car charger, drivers and businesses will no longer need to submit a planning application, cutting delays and boosting the number of chargers on roads.

Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood confirmed that the Government was making it "easier than ever" to install electric vehicle chargers.

She highlighted the "EV revolution" as a key driver for the Government in trying to get more chargers in the ground, adding that businesses will have "less red tape to deal with".
