Rolls-Royce debuts 'landmark' electric convertible limited to just 100 orders - 'Our most ambitious work'

The Project Nightingale production concept is expected to begin global testing and validation later this summer.

The two-seater convertible has been named after Le Rossignol, which is French for "the nightingale", and draws inspiration from the "EX" model debuted in the 1920s.

While many motorists will want to get their hands on the new Project Nightingale convertible, it will only be available by invitation for clients "with a deep affinity for Rolls-Royce design".

Project Nightingale will be limited to just 100 client motor cars around the world, with deliveries set to begin from 2028.

All vehicles will be created for sale and coachbuilt by hand at the Rolls-Royce facility in Goodwood, West Sussex.

Domagoj Dukec, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said: "Project Nightingale is built on the design principles that define this marque at its most compelling - grand proportions, absolute surface discipline, and a clarity of line that rewards the closest attention.

"And yet, it takes them somewhere entirely new. For me, this landmark motor car feels both inevitable and completely unexpected, and it will shape everything that follows."

Project Nightingale is almost exactly the same length, 5.76 metres, as the brand's flagship Phantom model, although this will be dedicated solely to a two-seat convertible.

Rolls-Royce is sticking with tradition and has integrated the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine on top of the grille.

It will be powered solely by the marque's fully electric drivetrain, with Rolls-Royce confirming that the Coachbuild Collection has been produced for the "most discerning and design-literate clients in the world".

Further engineering details will be shared as the car is tested and developed further, including the top speed, engine power and battery range.

Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said the new vehicle was the combination of three important things to make it "our most ambitious work".

This includes "complete design freedom of coachbuilding, our powerful, near-silent all-electric powertrain, and a uniquely potent yet serene expression of open-top motoring".

He continued, saying: "Achieving this required the same audacious mindset that drove our co-founder, Sir Henry Royce, to create his radically different experimental 'EX' motor cars of the 1920s.

"Project Nightingale shares the spirit of those landmark projects and is the most extravagant expression of what Rolls-Royce is capable of today."
