Experts have urged motorists to shop around for their fuel as prices soar

Motorists are being warned of huge petrol and diesel prices across the UK, as the latest data shows costs are rising quickly and may soon approach £2 a litre.

Experts have continually warned about expensive petrol and diesel prices in response to soaring oil prices stemming from the crisis in the Middle East.

Nation members of the G7 announced that they would hold an emergency meeting today to discuss the surging price of oil, as crude oil jumped above $100 (£75) a barrel.

The latest data from RAC Fuel Watch shows that all fuel prices are set to increase in the near future, with costs already starting to increase since Israel and the United States conducted missile strikes against Iran.

Drivers are currently paying 137.5p per litre for unleaded petrol, while diesel drivers are expected to spend almost £1.51 when they fill up their cars.

Motorists who are on longer trips and need to fill up more often will see their prices rise even more dramatically when visiting service stations.

The RAC data shows that average prices are more than 20p per litre more expensive than average prices, at 159.93p for petrol and 171.23p for diesel.

GB News has rounded up the most expensive petrol and diesel prices around the UK using the latest data from the Government's Fuel Finder tool.

Experts have called on drivers to use comparison tools to find the cheapest fuel in their local area, with significant savings potentially being seen.

Andrew Watson, Director at PetrolPrices, said: "The best way for drivers to protect themselves is to shop around.

"Using petrol price comparison apps can help motorists quickly identify the cheapest stations nearby.

"During periods of volatility, the gap between the highest and lowest local prices often widens, so checking before you fill up can make a real difference to household fuel costs."
