The Blue Oval has issued a recall notice impacting more than 272,000 vehicles, according to new documents from the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Ford warned that a loss of park function could allow numerous vehicles to roll away, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.
While it has issued the recall notice, Ford said it was not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the issue.

Impacted vehicles could see the integrated park module fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park.
The error means the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, (Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention).
Ford said the park module software would be updated over-the-air for free while it works on a final remedy, which it anticipates will be in February.
