Documents filed with the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that Ford will be recalling almost 1.1 million vehicles.

It reports that issues were found that may prevent the rearview camera from displaying images, increasing the risk of a crash to the driver.

The recall notice states that the software error may cause the rearview image to be delayed, freeze, or not display for the motorist.

A remedy has already been established, which will see the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software being updated via an over-the-air update.

Notification letters are expected to be sent to vehicle owners in the coming weeks, while a second letter, confirming the remedy, is expected to be sent in the third quarter of this year.

The following vehicles are impacted: 2021-2024 Bronco, F-150, Edge, and 2023-2024 Escape, Corsair, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, Lincoln Nautilus, 2024 Ranger, Mustang and the 2022-2024 Navigator.

The Japanese company has also been forced into a major recall of almost 450,000 vehicles amid fears the reverse light could fail and reduce visibility.

The issue, which affects certain 2022-2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles, may not alert pedestrians and other drivers that the vehicle is reversing, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

A remedy has already been identified, which will see dealers replace both reverse light assemblies and repair the wire harnesses as necessary. As with the vast majority of other remedies, drivers will not have to pay for the fix.

Under the Volkswagen Group of America umbrella, Audi will be recalling certain 2022-2024 Q5 Quattro and Q5 Sportback Quattro vehicles.

In total, 89,417 units are believed to be impacted, with fears the cylinder head cover srews may have been improperly tightened.

The NHTSA warned that if the screws become loose, it could allow oil to leak out of the car, which would massively increase the "risk of a fire".
