Labour's electric vehicle grant is expected to launch in the coming weeks

Two more popular car brands have launched new electric vehicle grants to help more drivers switch to cleaner vehicles ahead of the launch of Labour's new incentives.

Earlier this month, Labour announced that it would be reintroducing a grant scheme to help motorists get behind the wheel of new electric vehicles.

The Electric Car Grant will cut up to £3,750 off the price of a new zero emission vehicle if it costs less than £37,000.

It is expected to be introduced in the coming months, prompting some car brands to take action sooner and launch their own EV grants.

Three popular brands have introduced grant schemes for electric vehicles

Leapmotor was the first manufacturer to launch an electric car incentive, known as the LEAP-GRANT, on July 18.

The Hangzhou-based brand will cut up to £3,750 off the price of the Leapmotor C10 family car, bringing the price down to £32,750. The SUV has a battery range of up to 263 miles and fast charging capabilities.

The Leapmotor T03 is now available for £14,995 with a £1,500 grant, or Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) at £169 per month.

Now, another Chinese car giant, GWM UK, is launching its own "Green Grant" for the ORA 03 model, where drivers could save £3,750.

The Green Grant applies to all new ORA 03 models, including the PURE, PRO and GT trims, which start from just £21,245.

Drivers can use the grant towards a PCP deposit with zero per cent APR finance, as the Government stalls with the rollout of the £650million Electric Car Grant.

Using the Green Grant with GWM UK brings all of the ORA 03 models below the £30,000 price tag, all of which were revised and updated in January.

Toby Marshall, managing director of GWM UK, said: "We don’t believe our customers should have to wait for the Government to decide which vehicles qualify for the EV grant."

It comes after Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood outlined that Chinese brands would not be able to apply for the Electric Car Grant, citing environmental concerns.

Marshall added: "So, we've taken matters into our own hands and matched the £3,750 saving, available to everyone, right now, on our ORA 03 range.

"With immediate availability, competitive finance, and exceptional value, there has never been a better time to go electric with GWM ORA."

MG has also backed the introduction of the Government's Electric Car Grant as part of its own net zero goals, but noted that it wanted to go further and offer its own incentive.

Customers will be able to save £1,500 off the price of the award-winning MG4 and MGS5 EV, effective immediately.

The MG said it was introducing the incentive to ensure the brand was offering the best value electric vehicles in the UK.

Guy Pigounakis, commercial director for MG Motor UK, comments: "MG has been a key contributor to the EV sector, consistently recognising the economic and environmental benefits of introducing a wide range of affordable, electric-only models.

"Today's announcement underlines this commitment and in addition to this, we will also seek to work constructively with the Government to further increase the sale of EVs."
